Vincent Lugo Park also known as Dinosaur Park, Dragon Park or Monster Park to locals is a historic Park located in San Gabriel, California. Named one of the nine coolest parks in America it ignites open play with its vintage whimsical sea creatures made of hand-painted steel.
History: The structures were designed and built by Benjamin Dominguez in 1965. In 2009, Vincent Lugo Park was successfully nominated to the California Register of Historic Places. It was also designated a local landmark for the City of San Gabriel.
Best time to go: Any time that isn’t too hot as the slides themselves can get pretty warm to the touch. Sunset is a really beautiful time for that golden light playing against the backdrop of these historic creatures. A great place to go after playing at the park is Blossom Market Hall for a treat or dinner on the way home.
Best For: Any age! The playground is filled with sand so little ones can bring a few sand toys to keep busy while the older toddlers and kids play on the structures.
Parking: There is a parking lot in front with ample spaces. You will see a modern playground structure and to get to the historic structures you will walk over a little bridge and down a short path.
