In April the flowers are blooming and there is a garden bursting with giant ranunculus flowers in Carlsbad, California. Known to locals simply as The Flower Fields. It covers 55 acres for approximately 6-8 weeks each year from early March through early May. We spent a really lovely afternoon exploring the flowers, the giant mushroom playground and eating wood oven pizza.
One of my favorite areas to explore was ‘Santa’s Playground’, a space for kids filled with whimsical playhouses and gigantic mushrooms. For those of you familiar with the historic “Santa’s Village” from Lake Arrowhead you will delight in knowing they brought down these structures known as ‘Guard Shack’, ‘Doll House’, ‘Crooked Treehouse’ and aptly named this play area filled with sand ‘Santa’s Playground’.
There are a few tables in this area that would be perfect for a picnic lunch brought from home. Or you can purchase pizza, ice cream, tacos, cotton candy, kettle corn and lemonade. There is also a sweet pea maze, butterfly garden and tractor wagon rides.
Check out their website for even more activities available such as a kid’s day with bubbles and face painting, yoga, and floral crown making days.
