Galco’s Soda Pop Stop
Rows and rows of soda, old time candies, 1950s music playing through the speakers at the 100 year old Galco’s Soda Pop Stop will send you right back into your childhood, or perhaps your Grandparent’s childhood. The business began as a small Italian grocery store in Los Angeles, California and they still maintain their Italian deli in the back making sandwiches.
Our favorite part of this soda pop stop is browsing all the old fashioned candy and toys. At Christmas time vintage holiday music plays overhead and I always get stocking stuffers and small gifts from the classic toy section. We go with friends and let the kids sit outside on a small brick wall near the entrance as they eat their candy and play with a new trinket like a squishy little dolphin, Rubik’s cube or a fossil digging toy. Most of the toys are under 10.00 and the candy is also well priced.
There are over 700 flavors of soda to choose from such as Egg Cream from New York, Green River from Chicago and Sun Drop from Tennessee and all in glass bottles. You can also make your own soda for $3.59+CRV/bottle by grabbing an empty glass bottle, filling it up with carbonated water and your choice of a flavored syrup at the “Soda Creation Station”. For a young vintage lover they even host birthday parties here which would make for a really unique and fun birthday party.
